Optimizing Time-to-First-Token (TTFT) Across 300+ Edge Anycast Locations

Measuring the real-world impact of edge-routed pre-dispatch authentication, concurrent pricing cache reads, and zero-buffer Server-Sent Events (SSE) streaming.

For conversational AI applications, voice agents, and interactive coding assistants, Time-to-First-Token (TTFT) is the single most critical metric defining user-perceived responsiveness.

Eliminating Pre-Dispatch Bottlenecks

Traditional centralized proxy servers introduce 100ms to 300ms of round-trip network transit latency before a request even reaches the model provider. In AgentMink, pre-dispatch latency is reduced to near zero through three architectural optimizations:

  • 300+ Anycast Edge PoPs: Client requests terminate at the geographically closest edge data center, minimizing initial TCP and TLS handshake round trips.
  • Parallelized Authentication & Parsing: API token validation, daily spend cap verification, and request body parsing execute concurrently via Promise.all within the edge worker.
  • Zero-Buffer SSE Streaming: Server-Sent Events stream directly from the model provider to the client with zero intermediary buffering, delivering initial tokens with under 1.5ms proxy overhead.

The result is a proxy layer that provides multi-model routing and failover capabilities with sub-millisecond execution overhead.
